New cutting-edge defence facility opens in South Australia

Global defence and security company, QinetiQ has unveiled a first-of-its-kind research facility in Adelaide’s north dedicated to advancing software engineering and rapid prototyping for the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
The Mawson Lakes facility features an on-site software development environment and an adaptable laboratory layout, designed for the rapid development and testing of cutting-edge technologies and supporting key projects outlined in the 2024 National Defence Strategy and Integrated Investment Program.
Chief Executive Australia Sector, Gary Stewart said the facility will significantly enhance the company’s existing capabilities.
“The establishment of QLabs marks a significant milestone in our efforts to grow Australia’s sovereign industrial ecosystem,” said Mr Stewart.
“It expands our niche software development and machine learning capabilities, and we look forward to furthering collaborations and innovation to safeguard Australia’s national security.”
With 110 employees in South Australia and a global workforce of 1,200 staff, QinetiQ continues to lead the way in providing integrated defence, security, and technology solutions worldwide.
The new facility marks a significant boost for the state, strengthening local capability and reinforcing South Australia’s position as the Defence State.
